Launch of the Mirahs Heritage Club

One of the most memorable moments of the event was the launch of the 'Mirahs' Heritage Club logo by Dr. Bahaudheen Nadwi and U. Shafi Haji Chemmad. The club is expected to expand across institutions affiliated with Darul Huda Islamic University, encouraging students to actively engage with heritage, local history, and cultural research. The initiative aims to connect traditional knowledge with contemporary academic approaches.

A Session Rooted in Stories and Experience: Insights from Muhammed Shihad

Muhammed Shihad, Founder and Managing Director of City Heritage, led an engaging session titled “Heritage and Culture: Possibilities and Challenges in the Current Scenario.”

Through visuals, storytelling, and real-life experiences, Shihad explained that heritage is not just about remembering the past, but about understanding and protecting living traditions, stories, and identities. His session encouraged students to look closely at their own surroundings and recognize the historical value hidden within everyday places and memories.

He highlighted two important aspects of heritage work:

1. Constructive Engagement: The need to identify and document local histories that are often overlooked.

2. Academic Rigor: The importance of research, authenticity, and responsible storytelling in preserving culture.

Sharing experiences from the journey of City Heritage, Shihad spoke openly about the challenges and responsibilities involved in cultural documentation and heritage curation. His reflections inspired students to see heritage studies not only as an academic field, but also as a meaningful social responsibility.

Looking Ahead in Heritage Studies

The academic session that followed was led by Dr. Moyin Malayamma, who discussed the growing relevance of heritage studies in contemporary research and education.

He spoke about upcoming projects and highlighted the increasing global interest in cultural preservation and heritage-based research. He also emphasized the role of institutions like the Mampuram Tangal Institute in supporting young researchers and creating platforms for meaningful academic engagement.

The workshop concluded with a long-term project initiative for participating colleges, encouraging students to actively document and study local heritage as part of their academic journey.

The programme reinforced an important message: preserving heritage is not merely about looking back at history, but about shaping a culturally conscious future for the next generation.

The session was facilitated by Dr. Rafeeq Hudawi, Registrar of Darul Huda Islamic University. Jafin Koduvally, Thashreef Kidangayam, Husni Mubarak, Muhammad Mannah, Najah, and Musthajab from the Mampuram Tangal Institute for Research and Heritage Studies played an active and creative role in coordinating the workshop.

City Heritage’s Continuing Vision

For City Heritage, participating in the workshop was a meaningful step toward its larger mission of making heritage more accessible, engaging, and relevant to society.

“Seeing students come forward with curiosity and commitment towards heritage studies gives us great hope for the future,” said Muhammed Shihad. “The launch of the Mirahs Heritage Club is the beginning of something meaningful, and City Heritage is honored to be part of that journey.”

As the initiative moves forward, City Heritage remains committed to supporting educational institutions, collaborative research, and student-led heritage projects that help preserve the stories, traditions, and cultural memories of our communities for generations to come.
